MBAPLAY2_I131202174743The UC MBAL program was featured in the Charleston Gazette this week for their final project of the semester, in which the most write, direct, promote and perform a Dr. Seuss-themed play on business. Read all about it here:
The UC Enactus team has been selected as a finalist in the Liberty Mutual Insurance Responsible Scholars® Alternative Spring Break Grants contest!As a finalist, their video has been uploaded to the Liberty Mutual Responsible Scholars® video voting site On the site, you can view and vote for the UC Enactus Solar Lights video (last video on the right side). Voting began Sunday, November 24th and ends Sunday, December 8th at 11:59 p.m. EST.The top 10 groups who receive the most votes for their videos will receive a $2,000 grant to support their efforts in giving back to communities over spring break. This money would allow our team to purchase the fifteen solar lights needed to outfit the orphanage and school we are working with in Guatemala with a sustainable source of light and energy (watch the video to see the lights)!
chili dinnerLast week, UC-Martinsburg Director Kathy Mason hosted a chili dinner for students. Each student donated $5 for the meal, which was donated to the United Way of the Eastern Panhandle. Pete Mulford from the United Way attended the event to accept the $75 in proceeds. Way to go UC-M!

PrintBeckley’s annual Christmas Parade will be held this weekend at 1 p.m. and UC-Beckley will be well represented. Make sure to come by and cheer on MoHarv, Dr. Forster and others!

IMG_3188The University of Charleston’s largest December Commencement on record will take place at 2 p.m. on Sunday, December 9, in Riggleman Hall’s Geary Auditorium, as 106 graduates are slated to walk across the stage.Of the 106 graduates, 49 will receive their bachelor’s, 41 will receive their master’s and six will earn their doctoral degree. Charles Patton, president and chief operating officer (COO) for Appalachian Power, will serve as commencement speaker.
The UC ASID student chapter is holding their annual Holiday Silent Auction.  Please stop by the rotunda display case to bid on your favorite holiday items. There are stockings, ornaments, wall/door wreaths, and custom painted TOMS shoes! Bidding will take place until December 4 and highest bids will be contacted on the 5th. Proceeds will go to Habitat for Humanity and the IDES annual design trip.


The Office of Student Life is once again sponsoring the Salvation Army Angel Tree program. They are looking for any member of the University of Charleston Community willing to adopt a child.

This week, they will be picking out “Angels” for the program. If you are interested in adopting a child for the holidays, please contact Megan Sparrow. You are more than welcome to adopt multiple children. All items donated will be due to the Office of Student Life by Friday, December 6 by 3:00 p.m.

Last year we were able to adopt 27 children. Hopefully this year, we will be able to adopt more with your support of bringing a little holiday cheer to these deserving children.

Cheering Section:


The volleyball team ended their impressive 11-game winning streak, losing to Fairmont State in the MEC semi-finals.


The men’s and women’s basketball teams both fell to West Liberty, but rallied to beat Wheeling Jesuit.



UC men’s soccer players Lewis Osborne, Gabriel Maciel, and Conor Branson made the NCAA All-Atlantic Region Second Team.


UC women’s soccer player Kimberly D’Angelo was named on the NCAA All-Atlantic Region Second Team. 

This Week in Sports:

  • The women’s basketball team takes on Fairmont State at 5:30 p.m. at home on Thursday, then goes to Shepherd on Saturday.
  • The men’s basketball team plays Fairmont State at 7:30 p.m. at home before heading to Shepherd as well.
